A panel of distinguished experts will discuss what it was like to grow up in Redlands during the 1920’s, 1930’s and 1940’s. They will explore what a typical day was like for a child in the 1920’s. How the Depression Era affected their families and daily life. What was school life like at Redlands High School. They will also look at how World War II changed the lives of families in Redlands. The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. in the Assembly Room of the A.K. Smiley Library.

On Monday evening, January 23 the Redlands Area Genealogical Society will be presenting a program on the Civil War Veterans that lived in Redlands. Ron Running and his group of volunteers have been researching the lives of all 151 veterans that are buried in the Hillside cemetery. Come and learn about the diverse and interesting lives of these remarkable individuals. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the assembly room of the A.K. Smiley Public Library at 125 West Vine Street, Redlands.

Tom Atchley will present a review of the history of the citrus packing houses in Redlands at the Society’s monthly meeting on Monday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in the assembly room of the A.K. Smiley Public Library located at 125 Vine Street, Redlands.

Seven historical structures were given Heritage Awards at the annual ceremony held at the Albert C. Burrage home. The homes and structures were built between the years of 1888 to 1926. Pictures and the text of the awards will be posted soon.

This month’s membership meeting will be entitled, “The Formation of Riverside County from San Bernardino County in 1893.” Steve Lech, a Riverside County historian, will present the history of the formation of Riverside County. Steve is the current president of the Riverside Historical Society. He has written several books on the history of Riverside including four Arcadia Publishing books in the Images of America series. The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Assembly Room of the A.K. Smiley Public Library.
